Three weeks after fracturing his neck, nearly causing him to become paralyzed, Jason Derulo is making a speedy recovery – and the R&B star has a special person to thank for his progress. “I’m taking it one day at a time,” Derulo, 22, tells PEOPLE in his first interview since the accident (which happened during a tour rehearsal) in Miami in early January. “It’s been really eye opening. It’s given me a chance to look at everything and realize how blessed I truly am.” The one person who’s been by his side during his recovery? His girlfriend, Jordin Sparks, 23. “We are together,” says Derulo, officially confirming that they are a couple. “She lives in Phoenix and she comes [to Miami] and takes care of me, brings me breakfast in bed and she’ll go on walks with me. We’ve gotten closer because of my accident. It’s awesome to have someone you can talk to and she’s a wonderful person.” While rehearsing for his tour in his Miami hometown, Derulo attempted to perform a dance move he’d executed hundreds of times before, but accidentally landed on his head, snapping a vertebrae. “It was shocking because I’ve never broken a bone or anything!” he says, adding that it “hurt like hell.” But Derulo, who jokes his neck brace is “becoming part of my body,” is quickly on the mend. He’s started taking up piano lessons and has even begun writing music for his follow-up to last year’s Future History. “I’m going to make another album while I’m down,” he says. “We’ll see what comes out of that. I don’t know what it’s called yet, but it’s really inspired.” Best wishes to the new couple and we send our thoughts and prayers to Jason for a speedy recovery from the DeruloDaily family! |

Jason Derulo has appeared in public for the first time since fracturing his neck during rehearsals for his world tour. The ‘It Girl’ star was almost left paralyzedwhen he landed on his head while attempting an acrobatic move earlier this month. The injury meant Jason was forced to cancel his tour, which had been due to kick off in the UK next month. Stepping out in public on Thursday (19thJanuary), the singer looked in good spirits as he hugged singer Jordin Sparks while she filmed a commercial. The ‘Whatcha Say’ star, who sustained an acute fracture of his vertebra during the incident, was sporting a neck brace around his neck. In a statement about his injury, Jason said: “To all my fans who planned to come to the ‘Future History’ world tour, the pain of letting you down cuts me way deeper than this injury I’ve sustained. “My fans mean everything to me, so I’m praying for a speedy recovery in order to perform for you in the near future.” |

“My fans mean everything to me, so I’m praying for a speedy recovery in order to perform for you in the near future,” he says. Jason Derulo has been forced to cancel his upcoming tour after fracturing a vertebrae in his neck. The singer sustained the injury while practicing a high-energy routine for the shows on Tuesday. He fell on his head and was rushed to hospital in Miami, Florida, where doctors reportedly told him he was lucky not to have been left paralyzed. Soon after the accident, Derulo posted a picture of himself sporting a neck brace on Twitter, alongside the words, “I fractured my neck doing tumbling & acrobatics 4 tour! Always tryin 2 push boundaries 4 YOU! Like my new chain?”
However, despite his upbeat tweet, the singer has now axed his entire tour, which was due to start next month, to give himself time to recover.
A statement reads, “To all my fans who planned to come to the Future History world tour, the pain of letting you down cuts me way deeper than this injury I’ve sustained.
“My fans mean everything to me, so I’m praying for a speedy recovery in order to perform for you in the near future.” Derulo has since been released from the medical facility and ordered to wear the neck brace over the next few months. |

R&B wunderkind Jason Derulo has fractured his neck while rehearsing moves for his tour. Derulo is preparing for a tour on the back of his 2011 album Future History and he just tweeted that while working on the choreography, he fractured his neck. An hour ago he tweeted via Facebook “I fractured my neck doing tumbling & acrobatics 4 tour! Always tryin 2 push boundaries 4 YOU! Like my new chain? ” He seems in decent enough spirits, since his new chain is a pretty scary looking neckbrace and he took the time to Instagram or Hipstamatic his photo. There’s no other word on the severity of the injury, or whether it will effect his UK and European tour running from February 12 to March 26, or his forthcoming Australian tour in April. Please keep him in your prayers. xoxo |
